Tulsi and basil belong to the aromatic medicinal group. They share similar tastes and features. As a result, basil is often referred to as tulsi or vice versa by consumers.
The botanical name of Tulsi is Ocimumtenuiflorum or Ocimum Sanctum. The botanical name of basil is Ocimumbasilicum which is known as Sweet basil. But basil and tulsi are two different plant types.

What is the difference between Tulsi and Basil?
Tulsi is an aromatic medicinal plant, and its leaves are highly scented. Tulsi is mainly used as a native medicinal ingredient. Tulsi has numerous ayurvedic healing or medicinal properties. It is also used as remedies for a variety of illnesses in traditional medicine. Tulsi is helpful for adapting to stress and supposed to promote long life.
The basil is used mainly for culinary dishes. Basil has antioxidant, antiviral, and antimicrobial properties. It also has a potential for use in treating cancer, platelet aggregation, stress, asthma, and diabetes mellitus.
Tulsi is the larger of the two plants, growing 2 to 3 feet tall, while basil may be as small as 8 inches or as tall as 3 feet.
Tulsi or holy basil(OcimumSanctum or Ocimumtenuiflorum and OcimumGratissimum)
Tulsi is available in India in two varieties; Lakshmi tulsi and Krishna Tulsi
Krishna Tulsi also knew as dark holy basil, purple holy basil, Shyama Tulsi
Dark holy basil is famous for their medicinal value. Their leaves are smaller than light holy basil, dark purple with a strong aroma and peppery crisp taste. The stems are dark and more peppery than ramatulsi.
Lakshmi Tulsi also was known as light holy basil, Rama Tulsi
Light holy basil has larger green leaves than dark holy basil with white-purplish flowers and green or purplish stem. The light color variety of holy basil is popular for their cooling and mellow flavor.
Rama Tulsi is used to cure Fever, Cough, Leucoderma, Heart and Liver Tonic, Paralysis etc.
Vana Tulasi also was known as Wild Leaf Holy Basil (OcimumGratissimum)
It has green leaves (same as light holy basil) with white flowers and strong aroma. It can be found as taller than other varieties of holy basil. Strong clove flavor when you bite into a leaf, even a little tingling on the tongue.
VanaTulasi is used to cure Malaria Fever, Tuberculosis, Diabetes, Asthma, Urino-genital Disease etc.
